Mr Mohammad Hafezh bin Abdul Rahman is currently the Market Analyst attached to the Marketing & Market Development Division at the Malaysian Palm Oil Council. He has completed various analyses on the oils and fats markets covering production forecast, market and investment opportunities around the Asia Pacific region. A graduate from the National University of Malaysia, he pursued his post graduate studies and obtained his Masters in Business Administration in 2009. VIEW PROFILE
The Asia Pacific region is one of the regions that has promising growth for imports of oils & fats due to its strong economic growth driven by strong population demand through better purchasing power and economic stability. Increased urbanization, changes in focus sectors from agriculture to manufacturing and services, has led to lower production of agriculture products including oils & fats making countries in this region relied heavily on imports.

In 2016, the countries in the Asia Pacific region is estimated to import 8 million MT of oils and fats to supplement their domestic production and sate the growing thirst from the local industries. Malaysian palm oil has always been at the solution, supplying to its neighbouring countries to fill in the gaps left by local production.

This paper will discuss the performance of the Malaysian palm oil in the Asia Pacific region from the period 2011 – 2015 where important events happened during this period. It will also discuss on factors that potentially affect Malaysian palm oil imports in this region and try to predict the sectors’ growth to forecast future performance of the Malaysian palm oil in the region.
